Ben Coats

Ben Coats started Happy Paws Veterinary Partners in 2023 with the hope of bringing more happiness into the veterinary workplace. Prior to Happy Paws, Ben served as the CFO for Ascend Software, a company specializing in accounts payable automation software. Before that, he held the position of CFO at Berkh Uul, a mining company in Mongolia, where he discovered a newfound appreciation for horses’ milk. Ben also spent time as a corporate attorney, gaining insights into the importance of work-life balance.

Ben’s love for the outdoors knows no bounds. He backpacked the entire 2,650-mile length of the Pacific Crest Trail, stretching from Mexico to Canada. Additionally, he completed the entire Oregon Coast Trail and explored the rugged terrain of Bulgaria along the Kom Emine trail. Beyond hiking, Ben enjoys skiing, scuba diving, birdwatching, reading, and playing chess.

Originally from Idaho, Ben has lived in 6 different states within the United States and 3 foreign countries, accumulating a wealth of experiences. His educational journey includes a BA from BYU, a Juris Doctor from Columbia University, and an MBA from Harvard University.
